There is nothing to see here

„Invisibility is when you are not seen. Sometimes you‘re glad to be invisible. Then you can listen to others even though you‘re not supposed to and you won‘t get into trouble. But most of all, you want to be invisible when you‘re sad or ashamed.“ - Mathea, 8 years old.

Probably, we all want to disappear or vanish into thin air from time to time. But we also want to feel acknowledged and related. Not being seen isn‘t always a nice feeling.

Children have various magical ideas about the complex topic of invisibility, which might seem abstract to adults: playing pranks, sleeping in, and hiding better (from dinosaurs), are some of the ideas that many children I‘ve talked to during this project have.

A picture book for primary school children has emerged from this. There‘s Nothing to See Here is the story of a girl who wakes up one morning and is no longer seen by anyone. On 20 colorful illustrated pages, the child experiences the ambivalences of being invisible. But what do you do when you eventually don‘t want to be invisible anymore?
